Fiji Pro & Fin Choices 2.0

Hey guys! Just finishing up my discussion on the Fiji Pro and the different FCS, Futures and Kinetik Fin choices that we saw, so lets get back to it! I expected to see Mick Fanning on his FCS MF-1 signature fins, but to my surprise at least at one point I saw him riding the NEW GMB’s in Performance Core Green. He obviously thought the surf justified using bigger fins than his own FCS MF-1 template, hence we saw him on those NEW GMB’s. We saw PLENTY of Thrusters and Quads alike from both FCS and Futures, proving that the quad is truly here to stay. Though we didn’t see the Knubster anywhere, the last time I saw it was the New York Pro with Kelly’s MASSIVE air. I was also surprised to find that the split of surfers using FCS vs Future Fins seemed to be lopsided towards FCS by about 3 to 1 or so. So, for the moment the Pro’s still lean towards FCS as a whole, even in the BIG surf that Fiji had to offer. If you have any thoughts on Fin combinations that you saw at the Fiji Pro. please post away! Hope you enjoined the Fiji Pro. almost as much as you just enjoined my blog. (Hey at least my blog wouldn’t break your boards.)

Kelly Wininning Fiji Pro & Fin Choices

Hey Everyone! I hope you had a chance the last 4 or 5 days to tune into the Fiji Pro! From the MONSTER free surf session last week, to C.J.’s epic comeback of all time in the quarter finals and then ultimately Slater’s win. One thing that BLEW my mind was the number of signature FCS, Future and Kinetik (with a strong showing) Fins that I saw among all of the surfers boards. With Kinetik having Joel Parko’s signature Fin and Joel being absolutely on fire, you knew JP-5′s were going to show up and Kinetik would have a strong presence! Obviously you had people like Julian and Kelly riding their signature fins from FCS prospectively. (It looked like Kelly was on some new prototype of the now FCS K3′s, but this was an orange fin with 11 circles, I’ll keep you posted, but probably a fin that will be released next year sometime.) But, what I was ultimately impressed about was the number of signature fins I saw on boards NOT associated with their surfer surfing them. We saw sets of FCS JF-1′s, PLENTY of FCS GMB Quads and 5-Fins, on everyone’s boards showing you that the PRO’s change up their fins based on real time conditions in an attempt to get an edge on the competition.
