Before I even surfed, (yes there was life before surfing) my wife and I would often vacation in Puerto Vallarta for the sun and Coronas. Eventually I became a surfer and asked around only to find that there is some great surfing to be found in this area. It is little known because the pros don’t surf here, it lacks the over-the-top, triple-overhead, barreled perfection that Puerto Escondito and other breaks offer during limited windows of perfect conditions. However, what it has is much better for us non-pros who can’t drop everything at the rumor of the right conditions and fly down to Mex on a days notice only to fight for waves amongst the best surfers in the region. What does it have? Try non-stop, year-round, consistent, uncrowded point breaks, and lot’s of them.

The area known as Punta Mita offers more than a dozen reef breaks within a 10-mile zone with northerly and southerly facing exposures which means that if there’s any swell in the water, there’s waves. Best of all many of these breaks have limited access making them very uncrowded for those willing to throw down the $15 each for a boat ride. Would you pay $15 for 3 hours of 100-yd lined up perfection with 2 to 4 other guys?
