FCS JW-1 Julian Wilson Fins
The FCS JW-1 Is HERE! After much anticipation FCS is pleased to announce the release of Julian Wilson’s new signature fin, the JW-1. As fate would have it, the development of this fin coincided with the filming of Julian’s signature movie “Scratching the Surface�. The hectic travel itinerary meant Jules was able to test and refine his fin in a diverse range of waves. Once the template was locked down, Jules tried different foil options and constructions in order to achieve that ‘perfect flex’. In the end a traditional flat foil in Performance Glass construction prevailed. The final piece of the puzzle was to make the JW-1 pop, and steered by Julian’s recommendations, FCS arrived at the unmistakable aesthetic of solid orange neon framed with a black border.

It’s a medium size performance fin with a slightly smaller center fin. It’s really fast and responsive, and it gives me the performance I need for my style of surfing.� - Julian Wilson
Jules rides this fin in everything from 1 foot to 4-6 foot. We asked him why surfers should ride his fin, his reply was; “This fin won’t hold you back, it’ll let you do everything you desire… if you can do it?�
The JW-1 is a medium size fin geared towards fast, aggressive surfing. The side fin template lends elements of Kelly Slater’s K2.1 and the FCS G-5, delivering fast pivotal surfing in critical sections. A slightly smaller center fin template also triggers quick tail release. Julian Wilson's signature thruster set comes with smaller center fin and is ideal for performance shortboard and fish models.

Other Thoughts: Possibly to short a board for these fins. I imagine these fins would bring a board with more volume to life. Worth a try for sure.

Other Thoughts: These fins are super fun when the waves are good. I.E., steep, hollow and clean with some juice behind them. However, they we're a little bit to stiff for my taste and released a little to easily out of the top for me, plus they suck at generating speed in smaller or mushier waves. This is a great fin when the waves are at least 6 - 10.

Other Thoughts: They are really snappy fins and really cool. You can actually feel them flex into a turn then propell you into the next section. Grabby when needed and loose as well. They performed very well in large surf and were super loose in smaller shorebreak as well.

Other Thoughts: The JW1 model fin were excellent, for a hybrid type of board it raised its performance level. Good control on the fin release when hitting sections. The fins are also great for setting a good speed line when dropping in.
