That's a tough question, one that is often answered with another question, "Which Features are the most important to you?" The best Travel Surfboard Bag is relative, do you want wheels? Do you want a slim double? Do you want the lightest Travel Surfboard Bag on the market? Do you want a Travel Surfboard Bag that hides a surfboard to help save on the airlines fees? What a hard case breaks the top 5?!? Absolutely. Most surfers don't think "Hard Case" when they think Surfboard Travel Bag. There are plenty of misconceptions out there about using a Hard Case as your Surfboard Travel Bag, but at the end of the day, a Surfboard Travel Bag is about protection right? Well look no further than the Santa Monica Hard Case. Don't get me wrong, I love your typical Surfboard Travel Bag as much as the next guy, but the fact is, they're never going to protect your surfboards like a hard case would. Is a hard case going to cost you more to fly with? No. Is it going to be more difficult to travel with? Not Really. #7 - Prolite Ultra-Lite Travel Surfboard Bag

I 100% realize that there are circumstances where a surfer needs the lightest Travel Surfboard Bag possible. Airline weight restrictions can often mean the difference between taking 2 and 3 surfboards. That's not the case with the Prolite Ultra-Lite Travel Surfboard Bag. Now, I admit this Travel Surfboard Bag is nothing fancy, all the bells and whistles have been stripped to offer you one of the lightest Travel Surfboard Bags we offer, weighing in at only 6 lbs.! Redesigned in the past few years this Bag has everything its shortboard counterparts have to offer. I like that it's a double Surfboard Travel Bag, as I feel that most surfers would like the option of taking two Longboards or a Longboard and Shortboard on their surf trip. #9 - Komunity Project Stormrider Lightweight Travel Surfboard Bag

The Komunity Project Stormrider Lightweight Travel Surfboard Bag is in a place all it's own, with a very unique design and an oversized outside wetsuit pocket with drainage. I like this Travel Surfboard Bag, it offers protection for one surfboard, with a ton of extras. The unique zipper design really does allow for easy access to anything you've got inside this Travel Surfboard Bag. While I do see the advantages of using this bag in areas with cooler water because of the wetsuit pocket, I also realize that the "wetsuit pocket" can also be used for any of your wet surf gear, including, rash guards, towels and board shorts. Having a Travel Surfboard Bag that has it's own separate area for your wet gear is a pretty cool feature, netting the Komunity Project Stormrider Lightweight Travel Surfboard Bag the #9 spot in my Travel Surfboard Bag Review.

#10 - Ocean & Earth Compact Double Travel Surfboard Bag

And this brings us to #10 on our Travel Surfboard Bag Review, the Ocean & Earth Compact Double Travel Surfboard Bag! This Travel Surfboard Bag squeaked in because of it's rubber gussets, as it's the only bag to feature thick semi-ridged rubber gussets all the way around the rails. Think bumpers for the rails of your Travel Surfboard Bag. If Ocean & Earth were to redesign the Compact Double Travel Surfboard Bag, bringing in new features and using the latest technology, there's no doubt in my mind that it would be a top three Travel Surfboard Bag. Keep in mind it's made a bit narrow, best for traveling with your shortboards, make sure to measure any Fish/Hybrid Surfboards to make sure they'll fit in this Travel Surfboard Bag.

Travel Surfboard Bags: "Tips for Packing your Travel Surfboard Bag."

At The Surfboard Warehouse we get tons of questions from our customers about how to properly pack a Travel Surfboard Bag.  Which got me to thinking, I should probably cover some of that information for you here, as there are some tricks that can be really helpful when getting ready for your next surf trip. Obviously, first you need to make sure you're traveling with a Travel Surfboard Bag and NOT a Surfboard Day Bag. A surfboard day bag does not have the padding you'll need when it comes to keeping your boards safe during air travel, so please keep that in mind. Beyond that, read on for tips on how to pack your Travel Surfboard Bag.

Your Travel Surfboard Bag and Beach Towels?

Packing your Travel Surfboard Bag can be a slightly different process depending on how many surfboards your traveling with. If you have single surfboard and a single Travel Surfboard Bag, I find it much easier to pack your surfboard in this situation because there aren't multiple surfboards that could knock into each other during your travels. In this situation, take your beach towels (I'm assuming you'll be traveling with some) and wrap your board in them first. Then I would wrap duct tape around the towels to keep them securely wrapped around your surfboards and then place your surfboard, wrapped in your beach towels into your Travel Surfboard Bag. Remember to take the duct tape with you so you have it for packing your surfboards in your return trip. I find beach towels a better solution to bubble wrap because you're taking them anyway, so why spend the money on bubble wrap?

Your Travel Surfboard Bag and Pool Noodles?

Next, a great solution for the rails of your surfboard are pool noodles! The following can be done with a single Travel Surfboard Bag or when traveling with a larger Travel Surfboard Bag that can hold multiple surfboards. Simply go to the dollar store (if you spend more than a dollar per noodle you've spent to much) and by a few pool noodles. Depending on your surfboard length and the length of the pool noodles 2 to 4 noodles per surfboard should be perfect. Once at home take each pool noodle and slit a strait line down one side with a box cutter so that the pool noodle has a side that can be opened up and fit over the rail of your Surfboards. Depending on you're surfboards and how they fit in your Travel Surfboard Bag, you may need to grab the duct tape we discussed earlier to help secure the noodles to the rails of your surfboards.

Your Travel Surfboard Bag and Cardboard?

I have seen lots of tricks with cardboard on the nose and tail of surfboards when traveling, but to me that creates a hard surface inside your Travel Surfboard Bag that could damage your surfboards. If you feel the need to pad the nose or tail of your boards I would again look to the pool noodle as a much batter option. If you're traveling with multiple surfboards you may want to buy some inexpensive surfboard day bags or surfboard socks for each surfboard. Then you can put each board into it's own surfboard day bag before you pack them all into your Travel Surfboard Bag. You don't need to spend a lot here a very basic day bag or sock will do. This serves two purposes; one, the day bags will keep you surfboards from hitting each other while your traveling and two, when you get to your final destination you have a day bag for each surfboard should you choose to make day trips to other breaks.

Your Travel Surfboard Bag and Other Surf Gear?

On a final note, don't worry about packing clothes, wetsuits and other surf accessories in your Travel Surfboard Bag with your surfboards. Just be aware that any hard objects could damage your surfboards if you don't properly wrap them in something soft. Most Travel Surfboard Bags will come with multiple pockets for surfboard fins, Wax etc. take advantage of these pockets. If you can fit everything into your Travel Surfboard Bag and one additional carry on you'll avoid the airline fees for any extra checked bags. Last, refer to your airlines website when packing your Travel Surfboard Bag to make sure you meet any weight and length requirements. That said, I've found you can thrown that all out the window when you get to the check in counter. At that point being polite and discussing things in a friendly manner can go a long way. With the right attitude you might even be able to get any oversized fees waived when it comes to your Travel Surfboard Bag.
