FCS II Fins: "How FCS II Fins Changed the Surf Industry"

It seems like just yesterday I wrote the article below this one, FCS II Fins: "FCS II Fins, Through the Eyes of tSBW"  but here we are, that was over two years ago. What's even more amazing is that FCS II Fins have now been on the market for 5 years, as it was the beginning of 2013 when the world saw FCS II Fins for the first time at the Surf Expo in Orlando. It's amazing how fast time goes by... Yet here we are and I find myself wanting to reflect on how FCS II has changed the surf industry, if you're interested, please join me.

FCS II Fins, Damn, That's Cool.

As a surfer, I figure I'll share my own personal experience with FCS II Fins, before we dive in and look at what FCS II has done to the industry as a whole. I remember the first surfboard I had with FCS II installed, I was stoked, popping the fins in and out easily. No Fin keys, no screws just a brilliantly designed system that worked how one would expect. That said, where it really hit me was the morning of that first surf trip using that board. We were up early, a buddy of mine pulled into my driveway and popped his trunk, I had two boards, they wouldn't both fit along with his two boards that were all ready had inside the car. I realized the surfboard fins were keeping my boards from fitting. It was early, I was half asleep and frustrated I had to dig through my gear for a fin key. As I started looking, I realized... I didn't have to! With my friend looking on I popped out the fins and slid the board in. We looked at each other in awe and he said something to me like, "damn, that's cool." We smiled, shut the trunk and off we went.

Improved Speed, Maneuverability and Possibilities, FCS II Fins.

FCS II Fins as small a change as it may seem, screws to no screws has really allowed the average surfer to experiment with fins. It's quicker, it's easier, you can get off a wave, hop on the beach, switch out your fins and be back in the line up as if you never changed your fins at all. Experimenting with you fins is a HUGE part of surfing and I think FCS II Fins have brought that to the for front. Do you disagree? Swap your FCS II Fins out halfway through your session, I think you'll be amazed how different your board will feel.

Times Have Changed. Surf Parks, Kelly and FCS II Fins

The Founders Cup finishes today and just happens to be the FIRST surf event ever held at a wave pool or "Surf Park". Kelly Slater, the best surfer that has ever lived, finished his heat and was being interviewed on the beach. He was asked what he did to prepare for his heat, the answer was simple, yet astounding... "I changed my Fins." Kelly Explained, "One thing I decided to do was put in some smaller Surfboard Fins to give me a bit more maneuverability." What was Kelly surfing? The FCS II Reactors. Game. Set. Match.

FCS II Fins: "FCS II Fins, Through the Eyes of tSBW"

The story of FCS II Fins (yes, you should use the roman numerals, it's not FCS 2 Fins or FCS Two Fins) is now deeply ingrained in tSBW culture. Simply put, FCS II Fins were and are a game changer. Rumors about FCS II surfaced late in 2012 and we were there at Surf Expo Jan. 2013 unavailing the new system LIVE. At the time, we sold a ton of FCS Fins and being located in Florida, FCS asked us if we'd like to help them unveil their NEW FCS II Fins and system at the Surf Expo in Orlando FL, Jan. 2013. Of course we jumped at the opportunity.

After some internal discussion, we decided we had to be there the moment Surf Expo opened to shoot a video for our YouTube channel, so that's what we did. At 8:00 am tSBW was there, the first shop to see the launch of FCS II.
