Home Break: Indialantic, FL Where did you surf these fins: Indialantic, FL Wave Height: 6 - 8 ft. Wave Conditions: Epic Misc. Wave/Location Information: Hurricane Sandy swell.
Type of Board: Big Guy Shortboard Board Size: 6 ft. 5 in. Fin Setup: Thruster Misc. Board Information: Lots of foam, round tail.
Other Thoughts: These fins worked very will in the bigger waves, not as good for my style and board when the waves were smaller. Compared the MF-1, which are my standard fins, the MF-1 was too much fin for the overhead waves (noticed this in Costa Rica too). The AI-1 fins seemed to be the perfect fit for the overhead surf - nice open face carves, good bottom turns. But, not enough drive for the smaller surf.
"Draws Turns like a Larger Size Fin" - Katie R., San Diego, CA on the Kinetik Andy Irons Carbotune
Home Break: OB Where did you surf these fins: OB Wave Height: 4 - 6 ft. Wave Conditions: Fair Misc. Wave/Location Information: N/A.
Type of Board: Shortboard Board Size: 6 ft. 4 in. Fin Setup: Thruster Misc. Board Information: N/A
Other Thoughts: Fins were heavy and strong. For the average size they seemed to draw turns like a larger size fin. Stiff flex. Didn't let my board surf the shoulder to head high beach stuff as free as I'd hoped. They destroyed some of the cleaner sections though. Probably a better fin if I rode a smaller board, or if the waves were bigger/cleaner. Problem is that beachies aren't clean and open that often.
"Average" - Joel S., Waialu, HI on the Kinetik Andy Irons Carbotune
Home Break: Oahu Where did you surf these fins: North/NorthEast Shores Wave Height: 2 - 4 ft. Wave Conditions: Fair Misc. Wave/Location Information: N/A.
Type of Board: Shortboard Board Size: 5 ft. 5 in. Fin Setup: Thruster Misc. Board Information: Big Guy Shortboard
Other Thoughts: These fins worked just ok for my liking...Seemed to work average in the conditions I used them in, and felt a bit slower than other fin setups I've been using. Overall I'd say they might be better for heavier conditions and heavier surfers than myself.
