Firewire’s product development is centered around three things: The exclusive use of epoxy resins and EPS foam cores, developing lighter and stronger surfboards through sandwich construction, and optimizing flex to maximize performance.
Firewire Carbo Hydro Surfboard
The Carbo Hydro is a fresh look at the Baked Potato. The new nose
and tail allow for a more parallel outline which increases drive
without compromising the wide skatey tail. You'll need to put your back
foot back and drive it hard from the tail through flat sections. The
bottom is an updated single concave under the front foot that flows into
a heavy double barrel through the fins. The bottom contours and rocker
along with the fin location is key in designs like this. The
Carbo-Hydro has smooth transitions with those three components working
together towards the common goal of speed and maneuverability. The
Carbo-Hydro is destined to fly in a wide range of surf especially surf
that's on the small side.
Firewire Timbertek
TIMBERTEK represents a significant step forward
towards the holy grail of any product designed and manufactured in
today's environmentally conscious world. While by no means sustainably
built, Firewire's TIMBERTEK has by far one of the least toxic and
smallest carbon footprints of any commercially available surfboard
today. Grant Newby, a talented Australian craftsman first turned
Firewire on to the potential of this construction, and following his lead, Firewire's
internal R&D; and production crew worked tirelessly to make this tech
possible in a production setting. Building one-offs or small quantities
is one thing (and not to be discounted), but it took a tremendous
effort to overcome all the issues that arose as Firewire tweaked the original
recipe to increase performance and build reasonable quantities. Of
course Firewire having their very own vertical factory was a huge help. The combination of a lightweight EPS core, sustainably-grown
wood deck skins, Firewire's proprietary parabolic rail construction, and
an Entropy bio-resin hot coat yield an extremely lightweight, durable
surfboard with ALL of the high performance flex characteristics of
Firewire's existing technologies. Even more impressive, the physical
properties of the raw materials involved have allowed Firewire to reduce
exterior lamination significantly, furthering the reduction of the
board’s carbon footprint. Or as we like to describe TIMBERTEK, it's
simply High Performance Art.
